In this segment, A TIDBIT OF ASIAN-AMERICAN HISTORY, I will be providing a quick overview of a small piece of Asian-American history (by this I mean I highly encourage anyone who is interested to look further into this topic). Asian-American history is severely underrepresented in American schools, though Asian-Americans make up a large part of America's population, and play a huge role in America's history. While my purpose here is to advocate for Asian-American history to be taught be more extensively in American schools, I am also very passionate about more opportunities for ethnic studies of other minorities. The opportunity of ethnic studies was not offered to me at any time during my public school career. Ethnic studies education (which seeds ethnic awareness) is one of the first steps that can be taken to diminish the ubiquitous presence of racism in this country.
Now, on to today's topic of discussion: Gong Lum vs. Rice. Check out my short educational video on the subject below:
I hope today's post helped inspire you to join the movement of Asian-American studies in America! If you have more information or have an opinion on this case, feel free to mention it in the comments below :)
