A significant aspect of discovering your racial identity is to look for it wherever you go. Recently, I had yet another opportunity to go to Boston, Massachusetts, and visit the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA). I share this with yo today because museums gave me the opportunity to come face-to-face with Japanese history, which is a huge part of my personal experience as a Japanese-American.
As a field trip for my Japanese Literature class (see what I have to say about this class in this post:http://www.jossle.org/magazine/love-hate/), we came to this extraordinary collection of artworks to check out the new Japanese woodblock prints exhibit. Because we ended up stuck at the museum for almost three hours, we had the chance to check out the rest of the Japanese art exhibits.

BUDDHIST DISPLAY
In a darkened room filled with larger-than-life figures, this display was solemnly majestic.
OTHER ARTIFACTS
It is always useful to see a tangible, real-life artifact. You can study about the samurai or the Noh plays, but you can never experience its essence until you see it right there in front of you. Comment below if there are any museums with cool exhibits where you live!
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: In January, I will officially be studying abroad in Japan! I will document every moment of the 20-day experience on this blog. Stay tuned :)
I'll end with a picture of one of the many contemporary works of Japanese art I saw in the exhibit. Called "Five Elements: North Atlantic Ocean, New Foundland," the little glass statue in the shape of a pagoda that represents the element of water. Have a good day everyone!
