I had actually never seen wagashi before, so it was a novel experience for me to eat them. Since I have been learning about Japanese Tea Ceremony (to see my blog posts on this topic, take a look at the "Japanese Tea Ceremony" category on the right of this webpage), I made some traditional matcha tea to go with them. While wagashi isn't extremely sweet, it is always nice to balance out the sweetness it does have with this bitter tea. It can also be served with otsukemono (Japanese pickled vegetables).
Below are some pictures of the inside of the wagashi. Some were brown with sweet bean paste, and others were constant with their exterior color.
I hope you all enjoyed this SPECIAL WEEKEND EPISODE of Sweets Time. Stay tuned for more!
Until next time,
